Assume that subnet directly connect to R1 is network A and host in network A is called host A， while subnet directly connect to R3 is network B and host in network B is called host B. Before host A send packet to host B ， it will determined whether the destination address is in the local subnet ， and as a result host A may think host B is in also in the subnet A.There may be two possibilities. If there is no a same IP address as host B in the network A， host A will cannot get the MAC addresses using ARP. If there is a same IP address as host B in the subnet A， althouth host A will get an unwanted MAC as host B using ARP ， at the destination who receive the packet ，higher protocol will find that the packets is not send to the right process and packets will be droped. As a result of both the possibilities host A cannot communicate with host B.
